The price of fuel is on the rise. Most people these days are having to cope with rising heating costs. As a result, we are all looking for ways to save money on our heating bills.

Different people have different priorities when deciding how to heat their homes. Here is some information that may be of use when deciding on the best kind of heating for you.

In the UK, the three most popular kinds of fuel for central heating are gas, electricity, and oil. Get your home properly insulated to make the most of whichever type of heating you use.

Gas is the most popular central heating fuel. Gas is generally cheaper than electricity or oil, and unlike oil which has to be delivered, gas is pumped through pipelines. This ensures your home always has a constant supply of fuel.

In rural ares where gas is not available, oil is often used. Modern oil powered combination boilers are very efficient, but you do need to keep an eye on the level of oil in your tank to avoid running out. Tanks can be rather unattractive, but there are underground, double lined tanks available which are more discreet and very unlikely to leak.

Electric heating is the cheapest type of to install, and is another efficient way to heat your home. Electric heaters are 100% efficient at the point of use, which means that all electricity used is turned to heat, with no wastage. Electrical heating is the ideal option for anyone fortunate enough to have solar panels or a wind turbine, and as these technologies become more affordable, electrical heating may become more widespread.

Unlike other forms of heating, electric heating can also be installed virtually anywhere in the home. This gives designers and homeowners more freedom of choice in terms of their home design. However, you may pay more to run your electric heating than you would pay for gas.

There are a lots of different companies who could supply your gas, electricity or oil so shop around to make sure you get the best deal. You could pay less for gas and electricity prices if you take a dual fuel option from one supplier, such as the dual fuel rates from British Gas. By buying both your electricity and gas from the same company you may well save money on energy.

For more information on switching to British Gas to take advantage of their great energy prices visit britishgas.co.uk. Officially the cheapest gas and electricity suppliers on average in the United Kingdom.
